Vibe up your oral wellness rituals
Share
From the way we express ourselves to how we nourish our bodies, the mouth is where many of our daily rituals and self-love practices begin.
At quip, we see the mouth as a marvel. It’s the center of our world, and we believe more people could benefit from getting curious about oral hygiene. Caring for your mouth supports your physical and mental wellness, and can be fun when you’ve got the right tools — and isn’t it kind of hot when someone’s really into oral care?
This National Wellness Month, we’re helping you design an oral wellness ritual that consists of more than showing up on time for your next dentist appointment (kudos to you for that, tho).
Let’s review oral hygiene tips that make caring for your mouth a daily habit that supports a healthier body, not just a brighter smile.
Good morning, mouth
Brushing for 2 mins, twice a day starts with getting a brush you actually want to use.
Do you need gentle vibrations, or powerful oscillations? Is your bathroom aesthetic a match for muted metallics, or a pop of color? quip’s got an electric toothbrush for every mouth. All you need to do is decide which set of bristles make you excited to start the day with a thorough, dentist-approved clean.
Looking for a smart sonic brush? Meet quip Ultra, Elle’s pick for Best Electric Brush.
For a hybrid of manual control and gentle sonic vibes, try the classic Sonic Brush.
If you’re ready to take oscillating bristles for a spin, check out quip Rev, winner of a 2025 Oprah Daily Self-Care O-Ward.
Each quip toothbrush includes a guide for a proper teeth brushing technique (sneak peek) that includes brushing for two minutes. The internet’s full of morning routine ideas, but when it comes to your mouth, we recommend following up brushing with tongue scraping!
Hacking the mid-day slump
If you’re already deep into hot yoga, cold plunges, dry brushing, and whatever other self-love practices light your candle, then you might already know the importance of reinforcing healthy habits with small, proactive behaviors throughout the day. It’s not just about hitting the 5-mile sprint, it’s also about eating enough, hydrating, and stretching. Caring for your mouth is the same deal.
There are a few simple oral wellness habits we recommend sprinkling throughout your day, like eating tooth-friendly snacks — apples, carrots, and celery, for example — and following up your meals with xylitol-rich gum or mints. The former helps stimulate saliva production and blood flow in the mouth, while keeping you full and energized for that evening run. The latter helps prevent cavities and freshen breath.
No set of wellness tips would be complete without the reminder to rehydrate! Water does wonders for our health. Over on Instagram, we’re celebrating H2O’s role in overall wellness alongside our friends at Canopy with a product bundle giveaway. Enter here!
What's wellness without winding down?
As we navigate an often disorienting age of acceleration, we’re hearing more self-care tips that focus on the importance of supporting the nervous system. This has led to the popularity of restorative behaviors like meditation and long walks, which can all help our bodies slow down enough to get the nervous system reset they need.
When we swap daily routine tips with our friends (yes, the internet counts), pre-sleep habits can easily get left out, just like oral wellness. Even if your day leaves you exhausted, properly winding down — as opposed to knocking out while scrolling TikTok on the couch — can make a huge difference in the quality of rest you get.
For years, we’ve recommended using a nighttime oral wellness ritual to transition your body and mind from the buzz of daytime activity to bedtime relaxation. It really works! Similar to a skincare routine, caring for your mouth gently nudges you to slow down, stay present, and tend to a part of yourself that’ll (hopefully) be with you for life.
We recommend a thorough clean before bed — brush for two minutes, follow up with Floss String and tongue scraping, then swish some non-alcohol, anticavity mouthwash. Dim the lights, put on 3 hours of Brian Eno, and head to bed with the satisfaction of knowing you took care of yourself in small ways that are actually kind of a big deal.
