Frequently asked questions
An innovative, photo-based service that offers virtual dental screenings from over 500 licensed dentists right from your smartphone, tablet, or computer.
It’s simple! First, answer a few questions about your oral health history. Next, send our dentists guided photos of your teeth, gums, and trouble spots. Within 24 hours, you’ll get a detailed diagnostic report by email. Any potential issues will be explained and marked on your photos with recommended treatment options, price estimates, and next steps.
You’ll need a phone, tablet, or computer in order to share photos by app. The app makes it easy to take high resolution photos with clear instructions before and after each shot.
For best results, we recommend using a mirror in a brightly lit room or natural sunlight. Comfort is key, so take your time to find a spot with extra privacy too.
Many dental insurance providers will cover part or all of the cost of a teledentistry screening, but it’s important that you confirm this directly with your provider. If your plan is eligible, a screening will typically be covered as a diagnostic exam (CDT code D0140). If you are ineligible or do not have dental insurance, screenings start at just $35 out of pocket.
Teledentistry is a fast and convenient way to preventatively monitor and track your oral health, or to get advice for non-emergency dental pain or issues when your practice is closed. Here are a few more benefits to consider:
- Safe "no-contact" dental screenings
- Helps reduce dental concerns/anxiety with a trusted, confidential diagnosis
- More flexibility with off-hour visits when a traditional dentist office is closed
- Convenience, especially if a local dental office or provider coverage is limited
- Helps address and understand the severity of non-emergency dental issues
After our online dentists review your photos, you’ll receive a comprehensive oral health report, including a diagnosis, treatment options, and next steps for potential:
- Cavities
- Gum disease
- Orthodontics
- Oral hygiene
- Crowding
- Children’s oral health
- Chipped teeth
- Other dental concerns
Note: A virtual screening is not meant for treating emergency or urgent issues, but it may help establish the severity of your issue by providing a trusted dental consultation when it’s not practical for an in-person visit.
